Prince of Peace Lutheran Church

A little about our Pastor. (Note: as of this writing, Pastor Van Dellen has been unanimously selected by the voting members of Prince of Peace to be our Vacancy Pastor.  He will assume Sunday preaching and other ministry responsibilities the second week in March, 2012)

Pastor Jim Van Dellen was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the oldest of seven children.  After graduating from high school, he attended Concordia College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Concordia Senior College in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  After marrying his high school sweetheart, Judy Bond, in August of 1965, both he and Judy graduated from Western Michigan University in 1966.  Pastor Van Dellen then attended Concordia Theological Seminary in Springfield, Illinois, 1966 to 1970.  His vicarage (internship)  was at First Lutheran Church of Culver City and Palms in Los Angeles, California.

His first call into the holy ministry was to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Cass City, Michigan, where he served for 10 years from 1970 to 1980.  In 1980 he accepted a call to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lake Orion, Michigan, where he served until retiring from full-time ministry in August of 2010.

Pastor and Judy Van Dellen have been married for 46 years and have been blessed with the gifts of 6 children and 11 grand children.

 Hi, I'm Deacon Mike Sternemann.  I am licensed by the Michigan District to serve at Prince of Peace in "Word and Sacrament" ministry.  This allows me to, under supervision, preach God's Word and to consecrate the elements for Communion.  My Circuit Counselor is Rev. Michael Schulz of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Oxford and my supervising pastor is Pastor James Van Dellen.  I am licensed, upon annual review by the Commission on Deacon Qualifications, by the Michigan District President.

I have been serving Prince of Peace since the spring of 2009.  I serve this community of believers by assisting Pastor Van Dellen as he deems right.  Under my license, I am trained and approved to lead instruction for Adult Bible Classes, new member classes and youth confirmation classes as well as doing shut-in and hospital visits, baptisms and funerals.  I am not permitted to preform weddings.
